Network Outage Report - Update

To complete the investigation on the WACS outage: it appears that some time after 08:00 am there was a fibre cut between Jwaneng and Kanye which disrupted the primary WACS route via Charleshill followed by a second fibre cut 2 hours later between Palapye and Serule which took out the backup WACS route via Ngoma.

Matters were further complicated by a power failure at Sankoyo which also affect the Ngoma route. Currently WACS traffic is flowing via Ngoma.

Network Outage

We now understand that Bofinet has a problem with their WACS (West African Cable System) link through Namibia. As traffic switches to the EASSY (East African Submarine Cable System) link and RSA links they are becoming congested. As far as we can tell there is little understanding as yet of the cause of the problem so there is no proper estimate as to when services will be restored.  GBS Support.
