ADSL Outage Report

On November 15, 2017 we noticed that many of our ADSL clients could not connected to our BRAS Server to access the Internet.  BTCL was advised and confirmed the issue was related to their internal BRAS servers.

Currently, BTCL and Huawei continue to determine the root of the problem.

We still have a small group of users that are still not able to connected and are working with BTCL to find a resolution.

If you are experiencing any issues please contact our offices at 390 4620 for assistance.

RSA Link Issue

Kindly be informed that we are currently experiencing slow connections on our network affecting quality of service as well causing total outages via our upstream. Traffic bound to RSA via Ramatlabama boarder are currently down due to failure on the supplier network in South Africa. Links to London via Charles Hill and Ngoma are currently intermittent due to suspected fibre cut on the Ngoma route and power failure on the Charles Hill route.

Customers might be experiencing degraded service on Internet and total outages on all IPLC services via Ramatlabama. Our upstream provider is working around the clock together with their backhaul suppliers in RSA to attend to these faults.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused and you will be updated accordingly once the issue has been rectified.

Kind regards

August 25 - Update

Following further investigations we suspect that the problems that were experienced from middday Wed until Thurs 10:05 accessing Yahoo! and various other online services including iCloud, Steam, XBoxlive were due to issues with Akamai services hosted by Bofinet. This has not yet been confirmed by Bofinet.

However, by mid-day this issue seems to have been resolved.

Network Outage Report - Update

To complete the investigation on the WACS outage: it appears that some time after 08:00 am there was a fibre cut between Jwaneng and Kanye which disrupted the primary WACS route via Charleshill followed by a second fibre cut 2 hours later between Palapye and Serule which took out the backup WACS route via Ngoma.

Matters were further complicated by a power failure at Sankoyo which also affect the Ngoma route. Currently WACS traffic is flowing via Ngoma.

It is hoped now that all services have been fully restored but if you are experiencing any issues please contact our offices at 3904620 or email: helpdesk@gbs.co.bw.

Network Outage

We now understand that Bofinet has a problem with their WACS (West African Cable System) link through Namibia. As traffic switches to the EASSY (East African Submarine Cable System) link and RSA links they are becoming congested. As far as we can tell there is little understanding as yet of the cause of the problem so there is no proper estimate as to when services will be restored.  GBS Support.
